RICHMOND, INDIANA — Tri-County North’s girls’ soccer team had one game this week, traveling across the state line and facing off against Richmond on Wednesday, Sept. 16.

North lost 4-2 to the Red Devils, who play in Indiana’s Class 2A.

“It was a good game,” said TCN head coach Darren Baldasare. “We were never out of it. It was back and forth.”

Richmond struck first before North’s Hailey Thies tied the game up in the first half.

The Red Devils then put two more goals into the back of North’s net before Thies scored another, bringing the game to 2-3 early in the second half.

Richmond was able to get an insurance goal before the game was over.

Megan Hemp was credited with one assist and Morgan Helman finished with six saves in goal.

“We have to finish. Every game we have played in, we have matched their shots or out-shot them. We just don’t hit them. It’s becoming a bad habit,” said Baldasare. “We have to score goals. We’re getting the shots, we just have to score goals.”

North’s match with Richmond allowed them to play some tougher competition as they head into the belly of their schedule, facing top teams in the Cross County Conference over the course of the next month.

“The toughest part of our schedule is coming up. Where we’re at right now, I know we can win the easy games but we are going to learn a lot the next four weeks.”

The loss drops the Panthers to 5-3 on the year.

They were scheduled to travel to Madison on Tuesday, Sept. 22 and will host Miami East on Thursday, Sept. 24 at 5:30 p.m.
