EATON — In the final home match before hosting the Sam Ridder Invitational, Eaton’s wrestling team pinned its way to a 66-16 win over visiting Greeneview on Saturday, Jan. 20.

The Eagles secured pins in seven of the 14 matches.

“The guys have been wrestling real great. From the Holiday to the Top Gun they’re intensity in practice, just everthing has moved up,” Eaton coach Mark Silvers said. “They’ve been doing a great job. We’re getting excited because they are building toward that end. Kind of like we did last year.”

Eaton won five matches by forfeit.

Wade Monebrake, coming off his championship performance at the Top Gun, pinned Taylor Stinson in 32 seconds at 132 pounds.

Cam Schmidt pinned Keith Thomson in 15 seconds at 138.

Logan Chapin scored a pin in 1:13 over Hunter Anderson at 145.

At 152, Zac Schmidt pinned Caleb Allen in 46 seconds.

Seth Hodapp pinned Kaleb VanHorn in 1:59 at 160.

Tyler Schmidt pinned Lane Dillon in 29 seconds after scoring an early takedown and Seth Bowman pinned Chase Jordan at 285 pounds in 1:48.

“The kids did what I expected. We went out and they wrestled with intensity,” Silvers said. “The first six or seven matches we didn’t make it out of the first period. We pinned them right now. It’s all things we’ve been working on a lot in practice. It’s great when you see it coming through. To have them go out and perform like that, this was good. This is what we needed now leading into the regional, leading into the Eaton Invitational. I’m feeling real good about it. They kids are doing a great job.”

Eaton will wrestle in the OHSAA Regional Dual tournament on Wednesday, Jan. 24 at Valley View. The No. 2 seed Eagles will take on West Carrollton at 6 p.m. No. 1 seed Valley View will meet No. 4 Franklin at the same time. The winners will meet 20 minutes after the first round matches are complete.

“Those will be real good matches. There’s no gimme’s in any one of those,” Silvers said.

On Friday and Saturday, Jan. 26-27, the Eagles will host the 48th Annual Sam Ridder Invitational. Wrestling is scheduled to begin on Friday at 4:30 p.m. Wrestling will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the finals schedule to begin 45-60 minutes after the conclusion of the consolation finals.
