LEWISBURG — Tri-County North girls soccer earned a pair of victories over the past week, beating Union County before getting a big league win over Newton on Thursday, Oct. 1.

“It was huge for us. It was a league game and we’ve never beaten Newton before. It was a good game,” said TCN head coach Darren Baldasare. “The girls played tough, they played good (defense), and we controlled the ball most of the game. I’m very happy with how they are playing and how tough they are playing.”

During the game, North earned a 4-2 victory, getting two goals from Megan Hemp and two goals from Hailey Thies. Morgan Helman added eight saves on the day while Thies added an assist to her resume.

It was the school’s first win over Newton in their history.

“It was exciting,” said Baldasare. “I feel we are progressing still. In years past, we haven’t come close to beating them. It felt good to beat them because they are always at the top of the league. It was a good win for us.”

Earlier in the week, they also routed Union County, beating their opponent 6-1 on Wednesday, Sept. 30.

They had three goals from Thies and three goals from Hemp. Liv Baldasare had two assists in the game while Paige Daugherty and Lexi Frantz both added one apiece. Helman added six saves on the night as well.

“I feel like we are getting better with each game. We play the games – win or lose – and we evaluate what needs to be worked on. Every time we give them something, they fix it the next game,” said Baldasare. “We keep making changes and keep keeping better at those games.”

North was scheduled to travel to Carlisle on Monday, Oct. 5 before traveling to National Trail on Thursday, Oct. 8 at 5:30 p.m.

They close out the regular season with two home games, first against rival Twin Valley South on Monday, Oct. 12, at 5:30 and then taking on Franklin Monroe on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 5:30 p.m.
