Eaton celebrates 1990 state team, Volley for the Cure with 10th straight win

EATON— The Eaton Eagles volleyball team jumped into the state rankings with three more wins last week. The team is now tied for 20th with Norwalk in the Division II Ohio Volleyball coaches poll.

On Saturday, Oct 3, the team hosted Greenville in a Volley for the Cure event, as the program celebrated the school’s 1990 volleyball team which competed in the state final four.

The Eagles beat Greenville in three straight sets by scores of 25-18, 25-7 and 25-12. Jackie McCafferty led the way with 12 digs and four aces, as Julia Titus added 12 kills.

Meghan Puckett also added nine kills as Emma McKinney continues to distribute the ball, racking up 27 assists.

The week started on Tuesday, Sept. 29 against SWBL rival Oakwood, who was simply outmatched by the Eagles’ athleticism and talent.

The Eagles swept three sets, winning 25-11, 25-13 and 25-6. Puckett had 11 kills; Brittany George had a well-balanced game with nine kills, nine digs and three aces.

McKinney added 27 assists and ten digs while McCafferty had 11 digs.

On Thursday, Oct 1, the team swept Brookville 25-20, 25-5 and 25-21.

Titus had 12 kills to go along with an ace; George had 12 kills, 10 digs, three aces and two blocks.

McKinney threw in 34 assists and McCafferty had 15 digs.

The Eagles are now 15-1 on the season and 8-1 in the SWBL Southwestern Division — they are on10-game winning streak.

The team will face its most difficult schedule in the coming weeks, as they host the fourth-ranked team in the state Franklin Bishop Fenwick on Monday, Oct. 5, travel to talented Ross on Tuesday, Oct. 6, face Division I Talawanda on Monday, Oct. 12, and face off with league-leading Bellbrook on Thursday, Oct. 15.
