Twin Valley South freshman Nate Osborn advances to golf districts

ARCANUM — Freshman Nate Osborn, in Twin Valley South’s first year back on the golf course, has secured a spot in the district tournament after placing fourth in sectionals at Beechwood Golf Course on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

Osborn narrowly made the cut after finishing tied for fourth with a score of 85 during the tournament, scoring a 45 on the front nine and a 40 on the back.

“It was probably his worst day of golf since the beginning of the season. Golf is a crazy game; even the best of golfers can have days where nothing seems to go well,” said TVS head coach Darcy Robinson. “It was one of those days for Nathan. But he hung tough.”

Osborn thought he had tied for third for most of the day, but a late score came in and bumped him down to the final spot. He then moved to a one-hole tiebreaker against a golfer from Jackson Center.

He found some redemption in the extra hole of play, as the officials placed the two golfers on the hole number one – the very same hole Osborn shot an eight on for a triple bogey earlier in the day.

“He was pretty nervous going into it, but I reminded him of how awesome it was to have a chance to redeem himself on the very hole that put him in that situation,” said Robinson.

Osborn pared the hole and won the final spot.

The team, overall, scored 409 and finished in 12th on the day.

Winston Crosier finished the day with an 87, missing the cut by two strokes, while Chance Parks shot a 118, Jayden Bassler shot a 119, and Levi Klips shot a 121.

Osborn is scheduled to play on Thursday, Oct. 8 at Weatherwax Golf Course in Middletown. His tee time is set for 10:40 a.m.
