Blazers 5-0 in CCC after winning three games last week

NEW PARIS — After more than a week off National Trail’s baseball team picked up right where it left off — winning games.

The Blazers rolled through three Cross County Conference opponents last week to improve to 6-1 overall and 5-0 in the CCC.

Trail picked up wins over Tri-Village (5-1), Ansonia (17-6) and Bethel (13-0).

Against Tri-Village, on Wednesday, April, 11, Trail scored three runs in the first and added single runs in the third and fourth innings. The Patriots scored their lone run in the fourth.

The Blazers, which collected eight hits, were led offensively by Peyton Lane going 2-for-3 with a single, double, 2 RBIs, 2 runs scored, and 2 stolen bases. Travis Hunt had a hit, a walk, a stolen base and a run. Cameron Harrison added a hit, a walk, a run scored and and an RBI. Hunter Lindsey singled was hit by a pitch and had an RBI. Hunter Lee added a single and a run, while Jacob Heck hit a double.

Peyton Miller was the winning pitcher, tossing five innings, allowing five hits and striking out five batters. Hunt pitched two innings in relief and struck out five batters.

On Thursday, against Ansonia, Lane picked up his third win of the season as Trail won 17-6.

Trail scored five times in the first inning and built an 8-1 lead after 2 1/2 innings. The Tigers cut the lead to 8-6 after three, but Trail tallied three runs in the fourth and added six more in the fifth.

Hunt was 2-for-4 and scored twice. Harrison was 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Lane was 4-for-4 with a pair of doubles, three RBIs, three stolen bases and four runs scored. Miller was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and four runs scored.

Trail closed out the week with a 13-0 win over Bethel. The Blazers got off to a quick start, scoring nine runs in the bottom of the first and added two more in the second and third innings.

Harrison pitched a complete game allowing five hits and striking out five batters. He also added two hits and drive in two runs.

Lane added two hits and two RBIs. Lindsey collected two hits and drove in two runs. Lawson had two hits, including a triple.

Trail was scheduled to play Covington on Tuesday, April 17. They are to host Miami East on Thursday and Greenon on Saturday. Trail will play Bethel on Sunday at 5/3 Field in Dayton. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
