TRENTON — Eaton’s boys tennis team repeated as champions of the Edgewood Invitational.

The Eagles grabbed three first place finishes to tally 23 points and hold off runner-up Edgewood, who scored 19 points.

The tournament, which also featured Harrison and Middletown Madison, was held on Saturday, April 21.

The Eagles found themselves in the finals of all five positions with Edgewood essentially making it like a dual match.

“The doubles teams handled their courts fairly easy but the singles players had their work cut out for them,” Eaton coach John Hitchcock said. “Fortunately, after winning his first set easily Breven Perry was able to hold off his surging opponent in the second set and close it out 7-5.”

At first singles, Breven Perry won first place after defeating Madison 6-0, 6-0 then defeating Edgewood in the finals 6-1, 7-5.

The first doubles team of Branson Ball and Aaron Tolliver took first defeating Madison 6-0, 6-0 in the opening round then beating Edgewood in the finals 6-0, 6-3.

The second doubles team of John Altom and Seth Bristow beat Madison 5-0 in a walk over injury, then defeating Edgewood in the finals 6-1, 6-0.

At second singles, Andrew Collins took second after beating Madison 6-0, 6-0, but fell in the final to Edgewood 4-6, 2-6.

At third singles, Steven Perry was second after receiving a forfeit in the opening round, then losing to Edgewood 2-6, 4-6.

Eaton was scheduled to play Valley View on Monday, April 30. The Eagles will compete in the Southwestern Buckeye League Tournament on Wednesday, May 2 at Thomas Cloud Park in Dayton. They will close out the week with a pair of road matches on Thursday (Dayton Christian) and Friday (Edgewood).
