EATON — Eaton’s varsity girls’ soccer team opened the season with an impressive win and then played to a 3-3 tie in a back-and-forth match to open SWBL action.

The Lady Eagles hosted Edgewood in their “Friday Night Lights” game on August 17.

“Friday night opener, really exciting to be the only game in town!” Coach Michael Bacher commented. “Feeding off that excitement, and Edgewood having there back line up at the fifty, we were able to attack them with thru balls.”

Eaton was able to score a pair of goals in the first half and hold Edgewood to just two shots. Anna Black and Izzy Trader each scored for Eaton.

The second half was more of the same as Trader scored off of a free kick from Kendall Combs. The match would with Eaton on top, 3-0.

“It was good to get a win on opening night, wish we would have finished a little better, but first game jitters, and Friday night opener, I’m sure played a part.”

On the following Thursday, Eaton traveled to Oakwood to open Southwestern Buckeye League play.

Eaton fell behind early as Oakwood scored the first two goals of the match, within the first 20 minutes of play. The Lady Eagles bounced back with a goal to cut the lead to 2-1. Tyler Pittman found Emily Dungan for a header goal off a free kick.

A second free kick later in the first half tied the game as sophomore Kendell Combs scored. The half ended 2-2.

Eaton took the lead in the second half on a cross from Kylee Kidwell to Rylee Ruebush. The goal gave Eaton its first lead of the match. Oakwood, however, scored with 17 minutes left to knot the match. The 3-3 score held as the final.

Eaton’s schedule for the following week included two tough SWBL opponents with Monroe set to host the Eagles on Tuesday, Aug. 28, and Bellbrook coming to Eaton on Thursday.
