Eaton shuts out Franklin, falls to VV

EATON — Eaton’s girls’ soccer team picked up its second win of the season, thanks to a three-goal effort from senior Emily Dungan. The Lady Eagles shut out Franklin on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 3-0.

The Lady Eagles finished the week with an overall record of 2-3-1.

Both teams had a tough time getting started, according to Eaton coach Michael Bacher.

“Maybe the heat,” he said. “Although (we) had a couple breakaways early, we were unable to capitalize,” he added.

Eaton opened up the scoring as freshman Amyah Thacker found Dungan who finished the play with her first goal of the game. Six minutes later, according to Bacher, Kylee Kidwell sent a “beautiful thru ball” to Dungan, who was left one-on-one with the keeper and scored.

Later in the half, Eaton was awarded a free kick outside the box and Dungan finished with a near post foal for the “hat trick”.

“The second half was kind of back and forth,” Bacher said. But neither team was able to score.

“I just want us to keep our foot on the gas and put teams away,” Bacher added.

Eaton was unable to carry the momentum from the win into their next match against Valley View on Thursday. The Lady Eagles struggled offensively and fell 4-0.

Eaton was scheduled for a non-division match-up against Preble Shawnee on Tuesday, Sept. 11. They then return to Southwestern Division play hosting Brookville on the Thursday.
