Twin Valley South’s girls topple Tri-County North, 38-31

LEWISBURG — Taylor Clark and Taylor Bowers each scored in double figures to lead Twin Valley South past Tri-County North 38-31 in a girls Cross County Conference basketball game on Thursday, Dec. 20.

South claimed the annual rivalry game from the hosts, but to hold off a North rally in the end.

South held a 9-6 lead after the opening quarter and used a 15-2 second quarter to take a 24-8 halftime lead.

Bowers scored seven on her 11 points in the first half.

Clark led South with 12 points, eight coming in the second half.

South pushed its lead to 32-15 after three, but was outscored 16-6 in the final eight minutes.

Madison Johnson contributed five points and Evelyn Woodgeard chipped with four for South.

Sydney Jackson led North with 18 points, scoring 12 in the final quarter as North rallied. Shyanna Baker tallied six and Maddy Flory added five.

North begin the week with a 32-29 loss to Dixie on Monday, Dec. 17.

Jackson scored 14 to lead North. Flory had seven and Baker added four.

North held a 10-8 lead after the first quarter, but was outscored 12-6 in the second quarter to fall behind 20-16 at the half.

North trailed 28-22 after three.

On Tuesday, Dec. 18, South knocked off Stivers 51-43.

Mackenzie Neal scored a team-high 18 points and had 12 rebounds. She scored 13 of her points in the second half. Bowers scored 10 of her 16 in the first half, while Clark added eight.

South (5-6, 1-3) is off until Jan. 3, 2019. They will host Arcanum.

North (0-8, 0-4 CCC) is scheduled to play at Arcanum on Thursday, Dec. 27.
