Shawnee stays unbeaten in SWBL after posting wins over Milton-Union and Madison

CAMDEN — Preble Shawnee’s girls’ basketball team remained undefeated in the Southwestern Buckeye League with a pair of wins last week.

Bolstered by the return of all-league guard Nicole Sims, the Arrows cruised by Milton-Union 49-29 and slipped by Middletown Madison, 34-32.

Shawnee began the week with a 45-26 loss at Miamisburg.

In the win over Milton, on Thursday, Dec. 20, the Arrows held Kristen Dickison, the Bulldogs leading scorer on the season, to just four points. Overall, Milton shot just 21 percent for the game.

Shawnee led 10-4 after one and was up 28-10 at the half.

The Arrows were led by senior Brenna Woodard, who scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds.

Senior Logan Hollon had 10 points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots.

Senior Jenna Lovely tossed in eight points, had seven assists and five rebounds.

Sims, who made her season debut after suffering a knee injury in the spring, scored six points and had six assists.

Junior Abby Elam added six points and senior Kaylie Campbell contributed five.

As a team, Shawnee shot over 50 percent (21-of-40) for the game and had 20 assists.

Against Madison, on Saturday, Dec. 22, Woodard paced the Arrows with 13 points. Sims added 10.

Shawnee led 16-9 after one and was up 18-11 at the half. Madison was within three, 24-21, after three.

Against the Vikings, on Monday, Dec. 17, Hollon had nine points and five rebounds.

Campbell added seven points.

After playing to a 9-9 first quarter, Shawnee was outscored 12-2 in the second quarter and never recovered.

Shawnee (5-3) will meet league co-leader Waynseville on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019. The game will be played at Waynesville. the Spartans (7-0) are 5-0 in the Buckeye Division, while the Arrows are 4-0. Every other team in the division has at least two losses.
