Shawnee girls split with Tri-Village, Dixie

CAMDEN — Preble Shawnee’s girls basketball team stayed within a game of first place in the Southwestern Buckeye League Buckeye Division with a 37-28 win over Dixie on Thursday, Jan. 10.

Despite being out-shot 32-26 percent, the Arrows were able to do just enough to get their seventh win of the season.

Shawnee was 11-of-43 from the field, while the Greyhounds were 9-of-28.

The Arrows held a 10-4 lead after one quarter and was up 17-9 at the break.

In the second half, Shawnee outscored the Greyhounds, 20-19.

Senior Brenna Woodard led the Arrows with 14 points, four rebounds and two steals.

Senior Nicole Sims added 13 points, five rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Senior Logan Hollon led the team with seven rebounds and had three steals.

The Arrows began the week with a 45-41 loss at Tri-Village on Monday, Jan. 7.

Shawnee held a 10-6 lead over the hosts after the first quarter, but struggled in the second quarter as the Patriots took a 19-14 halftime lead.

T-V extended its lead to 37-25 after three before Shawnee rallied in the fourth to make it a game.

Woodard had 12 points, two rebounds and two assists.

Senior Jenna Lovely had a solid game with 12 points, five steals, three rebounds and two assists.

Hollon tossed in eight point and grabbed five rebounds.

Sims has six points and six assists.

As a team, Shawnee was 14-of-42 from the field and 7-of-23 from 3-point range.

Shawnee’s game with Carlisle, which was scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 12, was postponed, as was its Monday, Jan. 14 contest with Waynesville.

The Arrows (7-5, 6-1 SWBL) was scheduled to play at Tri-County North on Tuesday and will visit Milton-Union on Saturday.
