North’s Finney places at LCC Thunderbird Invitational

LIMA — Tri-County North and Preble Shawnee’s wrestlers made a trip to Lima this past weekend to compete in the Thunderbird Invitational hosted by Lima Central Catholic.

The tournament was held on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 25-26.

North finished 24th in the 43-team field with 44 points, while the Arrows placed 36th with 24 points.

Troy Christian won the tournament with 193.5 points. Covington was second with 179.5 and Eastwood was third with 155.

The Panthers Clayton Finney, who was the No. 6 seed, was the only county wrestler to place in the event.

Finney finished fifth by defeating No. 7 seed Andrew Hall of Northridge by fall in 2 minutes, 50 seconds.

Finney won his first two matches before falling in the quarterfinal to No. 3 seed Nick Baker of Troy Christian.

He won his next two matches before dropping a match in the consolation semifinals.
