NT baseball, softball teams fall in openers

NEW PARIS — National Trail’s baseball and softball teams suffered losses on the opening day of the season.

The softball team fell to Brookville 9-1 on Saturday, March 23, while the baseball team suffered a 13-3 loss at Middletown Madison.

Despite getting a three-hit performance from senior Gracie Jones, the Lady Blazers couldn’t keep pace with the host Blue Devils.

Jenna Petitt added a double, while Makena Laird and Zoey Lee each added singles.

Brookville scored a run in the second, four in the third, three in the fourth and added another in the fifth.

Trail pushed a run across the plate in the sixth.

The Lady Blazers (0-1) was scheduled to be back in action at home against Arcanum on Tuesday, March 26. They will visit Bradford on Thursday and will travel to Dixie on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at noon.

The baseball team allowed 10 runs in the final two innings.

Trail battled back from a 3-1 deficit to tie the game at 3-3 in the op of the fifth, but defensive miscues proved costly in the bottom of the inning.

Madison takes advantage of Blazer errors to break the game wide open as the Mohawks scored six times in the inning to take a 9-3 lead. Madison added four more in the sixth.

Trail scored single runs in the second, fourth and fifth innings.

Peyton Lane went 2-for-3 with a pair of singles, scored a run scored and had a stolen base

Joe Lawson was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Austin Knapp, Hunter Lee, Cody Webb, Hunter Lindsey all added singles.

The Blazers (0-1) were scheduled to play Arcanum on Tuesday, March 26 and travel to Bradford on Thursday. They will visit Dayton Christian on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 10 a.m.
