WEST ALEXANDRIA — Twin Valley South’s girls soccer team grabbed a pair of wins during the first week of the season.

The Panthers won their season opener 3-0 against Miami Valley on Friday, Aug. 16.

“A great start to the 2019 season as (we) had bookend losses to Miami Valley, losing both the first and last games of the 2018 season to Miami Valley,” South coach Eric Peterson said.

Allison Bassler, Amelia Wharton, and Makiah Newport all scored for the Panthers. Newport also contributed an assist. Goalie Abby Utsinger had four saves on the night.

On Saturday, South raced to a 9-0 halftime lead en route to a 10-0 win at Carlisle.

“The game was an excellent display of teamwork as six players contributed to goals and assists, and the defense provided their second shut out of the season,” Peterson said.

The team was scheduled to play at Preble Shawnee on Tuesday, Aug. 27 and will travel to Bethel on Thursday.
