GERMANTOWN —The National Trail wrestling team traveled to the Valley View Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 9, and competed against several of the area’s top wrestling programs.

The Blazers had a tough tournament, according to National Trail head coach Michael Eyler.

Junior Dylan Hager, who wrestles in the 285 pound weight class, took sixth place in his class and was the only Blazer to place in his weight class at the tournament.

Hager defeated Brandon Hays of Graham to advance in the knockout phase of the invitational. He then fell to Alex Steele of Preble Shawnee in the following round, to place himself in the fifth-place match-up.

In the fifth place match-up, Hager again found himself pitted against Hays, but this time Hays was able to get the better of the junior and Hager finished in sixth place.

Junior, 152-pounder, Josh Cook picked a win against McCarty of Middle Christian in the consolation bracket, but was defeated in the quarterfinals of the bracket by Anthony of Stivers.

“We’re still a young team and this was our first big invite of the season,” Eyler said. “Hopefully, the rest of the boys take this as a challenge and continue to push themselves in practice so that their tournaments don’t end after two matches.”

The Blazers travel to Monroe on Tuesday, Jan 12, and Tri-County North on Saturday, Jan. 16.
