Trail volleyball sweeps TCN

NEW PARIS — National Trail’s volleyball team defeated Preble County foe Tri-County North on Tuesday, Sept. 24, in straight sets 25-23, 29-27, 25-17.

“It was a much needed win during a stretch where we are battling injuries and sickness,” Trail coach Joy Yeazel said. “These girls are fighters and we have a very busy week ahead of us. I made a deal with the girls that they could cut my hair, an inch for every CCC win and half an inch for non-league — 7 1/2 inches get cut off with six regular season matches to go “

Offensive leaders were Tristan Bowers with 13 kills and Jaidyn Tout with five kills. Angel Bowers with 4 aces and 10 assists. Jenna Petitt with 2 aces and Brooke Johnson with 10 assists. Defensive leaders in digs were Madison Hathaway with 12, Tristan Bowers with nine, Angel Bowers and Brooke Johnson with eight each. At the net, J’da Jackson had three blocks.

National Trail lost to Troy Christian on Thursday night 25-13, 22-25, 25-22, 25-19. Tristan Bowers led the team in kills with 11 and Tout had seven kills. Tristan Bowers also had five aces and Angel Bowers had two aces and 13 assists. Brooke Johnson had 13 assists also. Defensively, Madison Hathaway had 14 digs and Tristan Bowers had 10 digs.

Both National Trail teams picked up wins at Northridge on Saturday with the varsity coming away victorious 25-10, 25-15, 25-7.

Leading the way offensively for the NT varsity team were Angel Bowers with 10 aces and Jenna Petitt with five; Tristan Bowers had five kills and J’da Jackson had four; Angel Bowers had seven assists and Brooke Johnson had two. Defensively, Madison Hathaway had six digs and Jenna had five, while Jackson had two blocks and Tristan had a block.

The win moves NT to 11-7 overall and 5-4 in the Cross County Conference.

The 11 wins is the most since the 2009 season.

The Blazers were scheduled to play Miami East on Tuesday, Oct. 1 for their only match of the week.

For North, now 3-14 overall and 1-8 in the CCC, they also lost to Miami East 3-0 on Thursday, Sept. 26, 25-9, 25-8, 25-15.

Emma Hale led the team with three kills. Sidney Jackson had nine digs and Jaelyn Hawkins had six assists.

Against Trail, Hale had a team-high 11 kills. Avry Shank had 14 digs, while Jackson and Hale each contributed 14 and 12 respectively. Jackson also had 12 assists and Hawkins added nine assists.

North was scheduled to play Eaton on Monday, Sept. 30 and Covington on Tuesday for its only matches of the week.
