LEWISBURG — Tri-County North boys’ basketball team played a pair of tight games last weekend, falling overtime on Friday and winning on a pair late free throws on Saturday.

On Friday, Jan. 3, North dropped a 67-57 decision at Miami East.

North held the lead most of the game, but fell behind in the fourth quarter only to hit a late 3-pointer to send the game into overtime.

North coach Joe Smith said turnovers in the overtime proved to be too much for his team to overcome.

Dylan Stinson led the Panthers with 24 points and 14 rebounds.

Wyatt Royer added 10, including a game tying 3-pointer with four seconds left in regulation.

Cooper Cole added nine and Luke Eby contributed seven.

On Saturday, the Panthers rallied from a seven-point deficit to beat Brookville, 52-50.

Max Dolan knocked down a pair of free throws to give North the lead with 15 seconds remaining and the Panthers withstood a pair of Brookville misses in the final seconds to hold on for the win.

“It was another nail biter,” Smith said. “Two teams that were trying to bounce back after loses on Friday.”

It was a low scoring first half as Brookville had the lead 25-17 at the break. North still trailed 40-33 after three quarters.

“In the fourth our defense got quite a bit better and so did our offense,” Smith said.

Stinson scored 10 of his 23 points in the final quarter.

But Smith said Stinson’s most important play of the game was his pass to Dolan, who finished with 10 points, to set up the winning free throws.

North was scheduled to host Covington on Tuesday, Jan. 7 and will be at home on Friday, Jan. 10 against Bethel.
