Girls tourney action set to begin

PREBLE COUNTY – The regular season has come to a close for the county’s five girls’ basketball teams.

The postseason starts Saturday. It’s do-or-die time. Win or put the equipment away until October.

Eaton’s girls earned the highest seed of the local teams, claiming a No. 5 seed in the Tecumseh Division II sectional.

The Eagles will open tournament action against No. 4 seed Benjamin Logan on Saturday, Feb. 13. Tip-off is scheduled for noon. A win would move Eaton into the sectional semifinals against No. 7 Trotwood-Madison. The game is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. The sectional championship contest is set for Saturday, Feb. 20 at noon against Meadowdale, Graham, Bellefontaine or Kenton Ridge.

Tippecanoe is the No. 1 seed, followed by Dayton Carroll and Kenton Ridge.

All game will be played at Tecumseh High School.

In Division III, Preble Shawnee earned the No. 11 seed in the Dayton 3 sectional at Tippecanoe High School and will meet No. 5 seed Miami East on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 1:30 p.m. The winner advances to the semifinal on Wednesday, Feb. 17 to play No. 14 seed Bethel at 7:30 p.m. The sectional final is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 20 at Franklin-Monroe High School.

Also in Division III, No. 16 seed National Trail will take on No. 3 seed Versailles on Feb. 13 at 2 p.m., in the Dayton 2 sectional at Franklin-Monroe. The winner will play either No. 8 Milton-Union or No. 9 Northeastern in the semifinals on Feb. 17 at 7:30 p.m.

In Division IV, both Twin Valley South and Tri-County North earned first-round byes.

Twin Valley South is the No. 8 seed in the Brookville 1 sectional and will play either No. 6 Newton or No. 9 Franklin-Monroe on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 7:30 p.m. The winner will advance to the sectional final on Feb. 20 at 1 p.m. to play either top-seed Tri-Village, No. 12 Yellow Springs or No. 13 Springfield Catholic Central.

For Tri-County North, the Panthers earned the No. 11 seed and will meet either No. 2 Miami Valley or No. 10 Dayton Jefferson on Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. The winner moves on to the sectional final on Feb. 20 at 2:30 p.m., against No. 7 Bradford, No. 3 Covington, No. 5 Southeastern or No. 4 Xenia Christian.
