Willis takes talent to Wittenberg

EATON — Cameron Willis had several options on where to take his golf game come National Signing Day.

But on Wednesday, Feb. 3, he penned his letter of intent to play at a school he could practically drive a golf ball to, signing with nearby Wittenberg University in Springfield.

“It’s a close-knit community,” Willis said of Wittenberg. “My dad has a bunch of close friends he keeps in contact with over there, (plus) the fact that I’ll be competing every year for the possibility of winning a championship as a team and as an individual.”

Willis is the most decorated golfer in Eaton history, tying the nine-hole school record three separate times with a 32, holding the 18-hole school record with 67, winning the SWBL Player of the Year twice, earning first team All-Ohio twice, and not to mention winning the state championship his freshman year.

The success is a reflection of his work ethic and dedication to the sport of golf, constantly heading to the range, working on his game, and always competing, said head golf coach Randy Titkemeyer.

“He’s going to be in a program that is nationally ranked and he is going to do very, very well,” Titkemyer added. “He has nothing but the brightest future and I know he’s thinking of post-college. He’s a young man with high goals.”

Willis also competed in the Ohio Amateur and the US Amateur during his summer season and will join a Wittenberg program that has ended their season in the top 10 in four out of the last six years.

“I hope to be a big contributing factor for getting us to those championships every year and competing in every tournament,” said Willis.

He plans on majoring in business while at the university.
