BLANCHESTER — Twin Valley South is sending Caleb Worley (113) and Skyler Straszeim (182) onto the district meet after the two wrestlers finished in third place at the Division III Sectional Tournament at Blanchester High School on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 19-20.
Worley locked up the third place finish after sticking his opponent in 54 seconds, while Straszeim won a much closer contest match, winning a 10-7 decision.
On his way to the third place match, Worley pinned Kage Worley from Preble Shawnee in 2:33 before falling in the semifinal round. In the consolation semis, he won a 4-1 decision against Bethel-Tate to earn him a guaranteed trip to the district tournament.
Straszeim opened the tournament with a 16-7 major decision over Raymond Hahn from Purcell Marian. In the ensuing round, he was pinned by Shawnee’s Kolton Dillion, sending him to the consolation bracket. In that bracket, Straszeim earned a second period pin before facing off against Hahn once again in the third place round.
Austin Hansford (138), Chase Sochacki (170), and Caleb Smith (220) all also had strong showings for South, each earning a sixth place finish over the weekend.
Overall, the Panthers finished 10th out of 24 schools in the meet.
Worley and Straszeim will compete in the Division III District Tournament in Troy at Hobart Arena on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26-27. Matches begin Friday at 3 p.m.
