Blazers fall short at Dixie, 41-38

NEW LEBANON — Foul trouble and an off shooting night was more than National Trail’s girls’ basketball team could overcome when the Blazers traveled to Dixie for Western Ohio Athletic Conference game on Thursday, Jan. 13.

The Blazers shot just 25 percent (13-of-52) from the field as they suffered their fourth straight loss, 41-38.

Trail grabbed an 8-0 lead just over five minutes into the game and led 10-7 at the end of the first quarter as foul trouble started to mount for the visitors.

Trail extended its lead to 16-10 with 4:27 left in the first half.

The Greyhounds scored the final 11 points of the quarter, including going 6-of-8 from the foul line down the stretch, to take a 21-16 halftime lead.

The Blazers began the second half on a 10-2 run to take a 26-24 lead. Dixie responded with an 8-3 run of its own to end the quarter to take a 32-29.

Dixie led by as many as seven (36-29) early in the fourth. Trail closed to within 39-35 with 1:28 remaining and 40-37 with 30 seconds remaining.

Skyler Ward led Trail with 16 points. J’Da Jackson added 10 and Micaiah Byrd added nine, all in the third quarter.

For the game, Trail was 10-of-11 from the foul line, while the Greyhounds finished 15-of-27 from the line.

Trail (8-6, 4-4 WOAC), was scheduled to play Carlisle on Tuesday, Jan. 18. They are to play at Ansonia on Thursday and Yellow Springs on Saturday.
