TCN, Shawnee record upsets

PREBLE COUNTY — A pair of upsets were the highlight for county baseball teams last week and as a result there are no longer any undefeated teams in the Western Ohio Athletic Conference.

Trail wins 2 of 4

NEW PARIS — National Trail picked up two wins in four tries last week.

The Blazers beat Ansonia 4-1 on Tuesday, April 26 in a WOAC contest. The next day Trail handed Brookville a 4-1 setback in a non-league game.

Trail wrapped up the week with a 4-2 loss to Newton on Friday and a 9-3 loss to Springfield Shawnee on Saturday at Day Air Ballpark.

Trail (6-8, 4-4 WOAC) was scheduled to play at Marion Local on Monday and at Franklin-Monroe on Tuesday. The Blazers will host Tri-County North on Wednesday and host Northridge on Friday. The will wrap up the week with a trip to Dixie on Saturday.

Shawnee upsets Newton

PLEASANT HILL — Preble Shawnee handed Newton its first league loss of the season behind the pitching of junior Grady Hutchinson on Tuesday, April 26.

Hutchinson held the Indians to just one hit and struck out 13 en route to a 4-1 win. Shawnee scored all four of its runs in the sixth.

On Wednesday, the Arrows rolled by Mississinawa Valley 18-4 then dropped a 19-1 decision to Union County (Ind.) on Friday.

The Arrows (4-9, 3-4 WOAC) have a busy week scheduled.

They were to host Franklin-Monroe on Monday and Tri-Village on Tuesday. On Wednesday, Shawnee will visit Dayton Dunbar the close out the week with three straight home games with Dixie on Thursday, Ponitz on Friday and Ansonia on Saturday.

North hands Arcanum 1st WOAC loss

ARCANUM — Tri-County North knocked off the last of the unbeaten WOAC team as they beat Arcanum 3-2 on Friday.

The Panthers began the week with a 14-4 win over Mississinawa Valley on Monday, April 25.

On Tuesday, North traveled to Day Air Ballpark to play county rival Eaton. After building a 4-0 lead, the Panthers allowed the Eagles to plate eight unanswered to claim an 8-4 win.

North (9-5, 6-3 WOAC) was scheduled to play Ansonia on Tuesday and will travel to National Trail on Wednesday. Theu will close out the week hosting MCHS on Saturday.

South wins pair of 1-run games

WEST ALEXANDRIA — Twin Valley South eked out a pair of 1-run wins last week.

The Panthers beat Dixie 2-1 on Tuesday, April 26, scoring twice in the fifth for the winning runs.

On Wednesday, South scored three runs late to beat Tri-Village 5-4.

South (6-7, 4-4 WOAC) was schedule to play Bradford on Tuesday, May 3 and will host Franklin-Monroe on Thursday. The Panthers will wrap up the week hosting Northridge on Saturday.
