CLEVELAND – The Mid-American Conference announced its 2016 softball tournament bracket Saturday evening. The Miami RedHawks will be the second seed and will take on seventh seed Toledo to begin the double elimination event on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.

Kent State won the MAC regular season crown at 16-7 and earned the top overall seed. Miami finished only a half-game behind at 15-7. Ohio is the third seed at 14-9, while Northern Illinois won the MAC West Division title and took the fourth seed at 13-10.

Western Michigan is the fifth seed at 12-10, while Akron is sixth at 11-10-1. Toledo closed league play with nine straight victories (and 13 overall straight wins) to earn the seventh seed at 12-11. Central Michigan rounds out the tournament field as the eighth seed at 11-11-1.

After facing Toledo, the RedHawks’ second opponent in the tournament will be either Ohio or Akron. If Miami wins its opening game on Wednesday, its next game will be on Thursday at 3:30 p.m. If the RedHawks lose on Wednesday, they will play an elimination game on Thursday at 6 p.m.

The winner of the MAC Tournament receives the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. Miami has won the event three times before, in 2005, 2009 and 2012.
