Shawnee boys, girls pick up wins

MASON & NEW LEBANON — Preble Shawnee’s boys’ and girls’ basketball teams each picked up wins last week.

The boys team played in the Ohio Valley Hoops Classic at Mason High School and defeated Heritage Christian out of Indianapolis, 45-41 on Saturday, Nov. 26.

Shawnee was led by junior Mason Shrout’s 26 points, five rebounds and three assists.

Logan Hawley added eight points and four rebounds.

Shawnee trailed 13-10 after the first quarter and was down 22-19 at the half. The Arrows closed to with 31-29 after three then outscored the Eagles 16-10 in the fourth quarter to get the win.

Shawnee was making its debut in the event.

For the girls, the Arrows started fast and finished strong as the bested Dixie 62-35 on Tuesday, Nov. 22 in the Western Ohio Athletic Conference opener for both teams.

Shawnee had four players reach double figures in the win.

Campbell Jewell led the way with 7 points, six steals, four steal and four assists. Harlee Howard had 15 points and eight rebounds.

Kahlen Kulms added 13 point and nine rebounds and Liv Thompson scored 11 to go along with five rebounds and four assists.

Shawnee led 21-9 after the first quarter and led at ever stop, 30-20 and 40-32 before closing out the game on a 22-3 run over the final eight minutes.

The boys’ team will be back in action on Friday, Dec. 2 at Arcanum to begin WOAC play.

The girls (2-0) were scheduled to host Valley View on Monday, Nov. 28 and Arcanum on Thursday, Dec.1 before closing out the week with a home game against Monroe on Saturday, Dec. 3.
