Eaton Little League update

EATON — For the second year in a row Eaton Little League hosted the second round of MLB Pitch Hit Run competitions. This past Sunday, May 22, 42 players competed for medals.

Nine Eaton boys and girls placed in the top three of their age brackets, earning a sectional medal: CJ Bailey, Dawson Blaylock, Brady Davis, Gavin Downs, Emilee Hargis, Alex McCarty, Kayleigh Michael, Tai Mize, and Theo Winings

Six earned first place gold medals, placing them in the overall sectional pool for a chance to compete in the next round, which is the team competition at Cincinnati Reds’ Great American Ball Park in June. Those players were Emilee Hargis, Gavin Downs, CJ Bailey, Theo Winings, Kayleigh Michael and Alex McCarty.

Major league division

After four weeks of play the Cubs continue to lead at 6-1, followed by the Reds, Indians, Astros, and White Sox.

This week the Reds went 2-1. They started the week at Oxford to play the Pirates. The Reds came up short, losing 7-5. Gabe Puckett went 2-for-3 and had three RBIs. Ryota Sato and Clayton Gregg each scored two runs.

The Reds followed up with a win against ELL Indians. Ryota Sato and Carson Brower pitched into extra innings for the Reds. They combined for 12 strike outs. Gabe Puckett came through in the 7th with a walk off 3 run homer. Puckett was 3- for-4 with two doubles and his homerun. He had five RBIs. Sato was 3-4 and scored three runs. Christian Reyna also went 3-4 and scored three runs.

On Saturday, the Reds traveled to West Carrollton where Tristan Apking threw a complete game shut out with 10 strike outs and the win. The Reds offense was again led by Gabe Puckett who went 3-4 with two doubles and a home run earning four RBIs. Christian Reyna went 3-4 with two homeruns and a double, racking up five RBIs.

Minor league division

With only one week left until Memorial Day weekend, the Minor league teams prepared their pitchers to transition from pitching four innings of a six inning game, to possibly pitching all six innings.

For the Braves this week, six different pitchers had impressive performances on the mound. On Tuesday, Trevor Davis had six strike outs followed by Albert Lockwood who had three. Offensively they both an RBI. Davis scored three runs and Lockwood scored two. Wednesday, Kip Deaton pitched for five strike outs with Gavin Winings earning another four. They both had multiple hits scoring two and three runs respectively with Winings earning one RBI. And on Saturday Ty Fugate struck out four from the mound. He then earned a double at the plate with three total RBIs and two runs scored. Derrick Michael racked up four RBIs and scored two runs for the Braves.

The Braves are managed by Tim Davis who is assisted by Rhonda Winings and Jeff Michael. The team consists of 8, 9, and 10 year olds from Eaton, Preble Shawnee, and Tri-County North schools, including Trevor Davis, Kip Deaton, Ty Fugate, Jon Hewitt, Logan Irby, Albert Lockwood III, Derrick Michael, Kaid Runyon, Yuta Sera, Sean Vickers, and Gavin Winings

The Yankees are managed by Chris Kopf with assistant coaches Matt Keating and Josh Moreland. Players include CJ Bailey, Brayden Ballinger, Joshua Bradshaw, Ethan Brueggemann, Benjamin Charles, Brandon DeCan, Drake Gunsalus, Parker Harris, Kase Keating, Adam Kopf, Isaac Moreland, and Luke Pool.

On Saturday, Yankee pitchers Connor Bailey and Adam Kopf showed off their stuff. Bailey pitched three innings with six strike outs, also adding a two-run double at the plate. Kopf entered in bottom of the 6th with bases loaded, no outs, and struck out three to get the save.
