Camden Day holds 48th annual outing

LIBERTY, INDIANA — The 48th annual Camden Day Golf Outing was held at the Liberty Country Club in Liberty, Indiana on Thursday, July 16.

The outing is a golf scramble aimed at Camden residents.

“It is for the community to get together and see people you haven’t seen in a long time,” said Candeb Day chairman Mike O’Dell. “It started many years ago when some folks from Camden belonged to (Liberty Country Club) and just got together and played golf. They had such a good time that the next year they did it with even more people. Now it’s become a big Camden event.”

This year’s event brought together 78 men and 16 women of the community to the country club to hit the links.

On the women’s side, the team of Brenda Hale, Missy Klapper, Lisa Nelson and Traci Kurtz took first place while second place went to the team of Angi Sears, Bailey Simpson, Joan Neff and Donna O’Dell.

Judi O’Dell, Keisha McDavid, Deb Sayers and Brandi Michael came in third.

Brenda Hale won closest to the pin on both hole 12 and 15 while Missy Klapper won closest to the line on hole 13.

In the men’s tournament, they were paired in teams of six, and the group of Dale Powers, Richard Grimes, Gary Moore, Sr., Jacob Keller, Ray Meeks and Curt Brummett took first place.

In a chip-off, second place went to Shelby Williams, Tucker Lovely, Kieth Phillabaum, David Staggs, Steve Hale, and Dave O’Dell.

Bill Miller, Brett Green, Levi Lovely, Bo Rutherford, Chris Arvai, and Mike Back took third.

Winning the special contest were Bill Miller, who was closest to the pin on hole three, Chuck Floyd was closest to the pin on hole six, Luke Barnett was closest to the pin on hole nine, Shelby Williams was closest to the pin on hole 12:Shelby Williams, and Mike O’Dell was closest to the Pin on hole 15. Dale Powers won the longest drive contest on hole 17.

To participate in the event, a participant must satisfy one of the following criteria: presently reside in the Preble Shawnee School District; have previously lived in, or worked in Camden; have played in the Camden Day Tournament previously during the past five years; have a current Camden mailing address or Camden Post Office box; be a spouse or an adult child of someone who has been eligible to play.
