Area teams run in Schul Invite

WEST MILTON — On Saturday, Aug. 27, the Preble Shawnee, Tri-County North, and Twin Valley South cross country teams participated at the Bob Schul Invitational, hosted by Milton-Union. Thirty boys’ teams and 20 girls’ teams ran at the event.

Twin Valley South boys finished 23rd with 584 points, while Tri-County North was one spot behind with 613 points. Preble Shawnee, which is fielding a team for the first time in more than a decade, finished in 29th with 859 points.

Fairfield-Leesburg won the event for the boys, while Minster girls were the top team finishers.

Only Tri-County North registered a team score for girls, finishing 18th with 499 points.

Megan Wright was the lone shining star for the area teams. The TVS senior ran the course in 21:24.90, good for 15th place overall. Matt Hemmelgarn led the boys’ team with a time of 19:04,which placed him in 74th.

For North’s teams, Bailey Hilt ran a personal best at 19:05, and Brandon Smeltzer, running his first 5K, came in at 19:57. Hilt finished 75th, while Smeltzer finished 110th. Lauren Koenig finished 90th for the girls team, with a time of 25:31.90.

Preble Shawnee had a rough time in the highly competitive race. The Arrows’ top boys finisher was Carter Roell at 144th, while Stephanie Howard finished 126th for the girls.

Shawnee, North and South will compete on Saturday, Sep. 3, at the Greenville Treaty City Invitational.
