WEST ALEXANDRIA — The Twin Valley South girls soccer team battled to a 3-3 tie with visiting Union County (Ind.) on Thursday, Sept. 1, in a non-conference contest.

The Lady Panthers started off in trouble early as the Patriots were awarded a penalty kick just over a minute into the game but was saved by goalkeeper Lacey Emrick at the 38:57 mark of the first half.

Minutes later, Union County scored on a big scramble in front of the Panthers’ goal, which ended with the ball rolling past Emrick to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Abby Creech brought the Panthers back into the game with a goal just before the end of the half, to tie the game.

In the second half, TVS kicked a hard ball early to the UC goal, only to see their goalkeeper make a hand save to prevent a score. But soon afterward, Kassidy Whaley sank the ball into the opponents’ net to give TVS their first lead of the game.

The Lady Panthers increased their intensity, having two more shot attempts, but failed. At 25:05, senior Creech kicked a curving shot from the corner of the pitch that landed right into the net for her second goal of the night.

With the score 3-1, UC responded within 90 seconds with a goal of their own. Several more chances by both teams failed to cross the net line until at 6:07, when UC tied up the score in the match which ultimately ended at 3-3.

Twin Valley South was set to play on Tuesday, Sept. 6, against Dixie.
