NEW PARIS — The National Trail Lady Blazers soccer team was defeated, 2-0, at home by the Newton Indians on Thursday evening, Sept.1, in the Blazers’ first Cross County Conference match of the season.

Trail played well defensively, but just could not get anything going offensively. Newton scored its two goals in the first half, but was kept scoreless in the second half.

Senior Blazer Bri Dillow was able to take a shot on goal in the second half. Trail’s keeper, Sophie McCloskey had 10 saves for the night.

“Our girls played a good defensive game tonight, and I’m proud we held the Indians to just two goals,” said coach Lisa McClosky. “I would have liked to have done more offensively, but Newton Coach Fessler’s defense was strong. We know the areas we need to work on and will focus on those as we prepare to face Franklin Monroe next week.

The game against Franklin Monroe was scheduled to be played Tuesday, Sept. 6, at home. Results of that contest ere unavailable at press time.

National Trail is now 2-3 on the season, and 0-1 in the CCC.
