Eaton tennis beats Monroe 3-2

EATON — On Tuesday, Aug. 30, the Eaton girls tennis team won a hard-fought match against Lemon Monroe, 3-2.

All three Lady Eagle singles won in two sets, while both doubles teams each lost in three sets.

“This was a case where your singles come up with wins.” said coach John Hitchcock. “Sometimes you don’t care where they come from. The doubles really fought hard but this was the first time the doubles played with the partners they had for the match. The team is looking a little better. At this point in the schedule, we’ll take what we’ve got.”

No. 1 singles Quinlyn Sittloh beat Maggie Riley, 6-0, 6-3. No. 2 singles Madison McKinley beat Renee Lyons, 6-0, 6-1. No. 3 singles Allison Cave beat Julia Buzard, 6-3, 7-5.

No. 1 doubles Katelyn Niehaus and Makenzi Moore lost, 4-6, 6-4, 1-6.

No.2 doubles Sam Gramaglia and Nariah Emery lost 6-4, 4-6, 6-7.

Eaton is now 5-3 overall, with a 2-2 record in the Southwestern Buckeye League. A scheduled match on Wednesday, Aug. 30 against Greenville was rained out and will be rescheduled. The Lady Eagles lost a Sept. 1, contest against Oakwood 5-0; individual stats were unavailable at press time. The Eagles next match was scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 6, at Carlisle.
