ARCANUM — In a tightly contested golf match on Monday, Sept. 12, Arcanum’s boys golf team defeated National Trail 181-184 at Beechwood Golf Course.

Arcanum’s Steven Van Atta was medalist for the match shooting a 35. National Trail senior Isaac Plankenhorn led the Blazers with a 41. Trail seniors Logan Petitt and Bryten Jones shot 45 and 48 respectively.

The Blazers bounced back from their narrow defeat by beating Newton 185-193 on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at Highland Lakes Golf Course.

The Blazers were led by Petitt and Plankenhorn who shot 42 and 43 respectively. Petitt was medalist for the match despite struggling with his putting at times.

“Isaac continues to maintain the consistency of play that has helped the team to a 9-3 record this season in matches,” said National Trail coach Kurt Bachman. “I am proud of the effort this team put forward today after the heartbreaking loss to Arcanum yesterday. I wasn’t sure what to expect but the team came ready to play and came away with a victory over a very competitive Newton golf team.”

National Trail was scheduled to finish its Cross County Conference schedule Thursday, Sept. 15, against Miami East High at Lakeland Golf Course in St. Paris.

The regular season will come to a close when the Blazers participate at the CCC tournament on Thursday, Sept. 22 at Stillwater Valley Golf Course in Versailles.
