CAMDEN — The Preble Shawnee girls tennis team moved a step closer to an undefeated regular season as they beat two more Southwestern Buckeye League opponents during the week.

On Monday, Sept. 12, at Monroe, the Lady Arrows won 4-1, while on Tuesday, Sept. 13, they downed Northridge 5-0.

In singles competition against Monroe, all three Shawnee players Ashlyn Hubbard, Allison Zornes, and Alivia Reek scored double shutouts, 6-0, 6-0 against their opponents. Doubles competition was a bit more competitive, as the No.1 team of Sidney Quillen and Jane Feck defeated Hannah Crawford and Makenzi Moore 6-2, 6-1. But No.2 Mariah Emery and Jenna McMonigle of Monroe defeated Kirsten Boone and Emma Batsche 6-1, 6-2.

“Our singles lineup really dominated tonight right from the first ball,” said coach Dave Hubbard. “Quillen and Feck played a very solid match as well at first doubles just as they have all season. Our girls were very focused on the task at hand tonight and picked up another nice win for us.”

On Tuesday against Northridge, it was almost textbook tennis as the Lady Arrows won all five events in short fashion. The marquee matchup however, was No.1 singles where Ashlyn Hubbard had to earn her victory, beating a competitive Thaomy Tran 6-1, 6-3.

Zornes defeated Madison Elliott 6-0, 6-0, while Reek shut out Kindell Massie 6-0, 6-0.

In Doubles, Quillen and Feck downed Myra Tizzer/Marie Smith 6-0, 6-0, while Smith/Boone also shut out Karen Howell/Michelle Clark 6-0, 6-0.

“We wrapped up our league play tonight in a big way,” said coach Hubbard. “Our girls were really focused on taking care of the task at hand. Now, we just have to really keep at it the next couple weeks leading up to the league tournament and make sure we don’t have any kind of letdown or lapse in our intensity. I am really proud of what these girls have accomplished so far.”

Preble Shawnee is now 14-0 overall and 6-0 in the SWBL standings. The Lady Arrows were scheduled to play on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Franklin.
