FRANKLIN — The Preble Shawnee girls tennis team keeps adding wins to its record, defeating Franklin 5-0 on Wednesday, Sept. 14, on the road.

In singles competition, No. 1 Ashlyn Hubbard made an early exit by completely shutting down Shannia Mangroo, 6-0, 6-0. No. 2 singles Allison Zornes defeated Kristian Earles, 6-2, 6-1.

Rounding out the singles side was No. 3 Alivia Reek, who had early troubles from Madison Earles in the first set, but soon dominated the match, 7-5, 6-0.

The doubles side was much more dominant for the Lady Arrows. No. 1 team Sidney Quillen/Jane Feck was easily victorious against Belinda Morris/Kristianan Tackett, 6-0, 6-1, while No. 2 team Lauren Smith/Kirsten Boone had full control of the match against Kelsey Cowell/Audrey Brinkman, winning 6-0, 6-1.

“We put together a really workmanlike effort tonight,” said Shawnee coach Dave Hubbard. “With the exception of third singles, we really dictated play the entire match and dominated right from the first ball.”

“Alivia was in a real battle for the first set and did a great job coming back from a service break down to take that set,” Hubbard said. “Once she closed out the first set, she really took control and rolled through the second set to close her opponent out.”

With an overall record of 15-0, and a commanding Southwestern Buckeye League record of 6-0 in the Buckeye Division, the Lady Arrows are poised to enter the SWBL tournament as the favorites in two weeks. There are only a few more matches remaining for the 2016 season — the Arrows’ next was slated for a home match on Monday, Sept. 19, against SWBL foe Eaton.
