Volleyball still undefeated

After a busy week in which the Talawanda varsity volleyball team played four games in five days, the Lady Braves played just once last week. Talawanda remained unbeaten in the Southwest Ohio Conference and top the standings at 6-0.

Talawanda defeated Ross on Tuesday, Sept. 20, their third of six straight away games. The Lady Braves won in four games (25-20, 19-25, 25-21, 25-21).

The win over Ross sets up a key SWOC matchup on Tuesday, Sept. 27, as Talawanda traveled to Little Miami (score not available at press time). LM is second in the standings at 5-1, having lost earlier in the season to the Lady Braves. Little Miami is 9-3 overall.

Talawanda follows with another SWOC match at Harrison on Thursday, and then closes out the six-game stretch of away games at Eaton on Monday, Oct. 3. They return to the home court on Tuesday, Oct. 4, hosting Mount Healthy.

Boys’ golf beats Harrison

Talawanda’s boys’ golf team edged Harrison by one stroke (341-342) at the SWOC Tournament on Tuesday, Sept. 20. By taking the tournament’s top spot, the Braves claimed the SWOC Championship with 27 points.

Going into the conference match, the Braves were tied with Harrison and Little Miami with 4-1 records during the regular season. Each collected 12 points towards the final conference standings. Talawanda picked up 15 points for winning the tournament and outscored Harrison in the final standings, 27-24.

Tournament medalist Vincent Whitehead’s round of 76 led Talawanda. Charlie Winkler was third overall (85) and Trey Hubbard came in tied for 6th (87). Alex Gunderson (93) was 15th and Yler Begley (95) came in 19th.

Tennis now 10-8

Talawanda’s tennis team picked up two non-conference wins last week. The Lady Braves defeated Colerain, 3-2, and Fenwick, 4-1 Talawanda is now 10-8 overall.

Talawanda remains a game behind Ross in the SWOC standings at 5-1. The SWOC tournament is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 28. The Lady Braves were also set to host Eaton on Monday, Sept. 26.

Soccer beats St. Bernard

The Braves’ boys’ soccer team capped the week with a dominating win over St. Bernard, 13-0. The win pushed their overall record to 5-2.

Talawanda has now won four in a row with a key Southwest Ohio Conference match with Edgewood set for Thursday, Sept. 29.

The Braves are 1-0 in the conference having defeated Harrison earlier this season. Edgewood is 2-1 in the SWOC along with Ross. Talawanda was scheduled to play a non-conference match against Middletown on Monday, Sept. 26.

The Lady Braves’ soccer team traveled to Mount Healthy on Tuesday, Sept. 20. They picked up a 7-0 win and upped their overall record to 4-5-1. Talawanda is 1-2 in conference play with Edgewood next on their schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 27
