WEST ALEXANDRIA — The National Trail girls soccer team played Twin Valley South to a 1-1 tie in a Cross County Conference match on Thursday, Sept. 29.
The Lady Panthers were able to score first in the first half, with an unassisted goal from senior Ava Watts. TVS held a 1-0 lead at halftime.
But the Lady Blazers came out strong in the second half and were able to tie the game with an assist by junior Katie Buehner to junior Rachel Ray, who was able to find the back of the net.
NT senior Taylor Middleton had four shots on goal, Ray had five shots on goal, and Kate and Kristan Othersen had one shot on goal each for the night. Trail’s goalkeeper, Sophie McCloskey, had 12 saves for the night.
“Our defense did a great job tonight of taking up the slack in the first half,” said Blazers coach Lisa McCloskey. “Our biggest issue is getting a slow start and then trying to play catch-up. It’s not a position we like to be in, but the girls were able to come out in the second half and get it together. They worked really well together and are continuing to make good decisions when the pressure is on.”
National Trail had a game on Saturday, Oct. 1, against Madison, canceled, while Twin Valley South was scheduled to play on Tuesday, Oct. 4, against Botkins. The Lady Blazers will play next on Thursday, Oct. 6, at home, against Dayton Christian.
