NT cross country runners place 7th at Rockets Invite

ANNA — The National Trail cross country team made a good showing at the Anna Rockets Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 8, placing seventh out of 25 boys teams with a team score of 211.

Senior runner Lane Unger was the top finisher for the Blazers, closing the race in 19th with a time of 17:04. Not far behind was sophomore Josh Bishop, who crossed the finish line in 23rd at the 17:09 mark.

The third NT finisher was senior Weston Haws, in 45th at 17:55.

Other Blazers who competed in the event included Josh Cook (66th, 18:16), Adam Eyler (70th, 18:22), Peyton Harrison (78th, 18:31), Travis Hunt (87th, 18:45), Ian Miller (154th, 19:53), Austin Green (166th, 20:07), Nicolas Wellman (188th, 20:31), Jack Weaver (248th, 22:27), and Jesse Biser (279th, 23:23).

LaSalle won the boys competition with an impressive team score of 35 — their five scorers all finished in the top 15. Bellbrook placed a distant second with 94 with Anna finished at third with 122.

Three girls participated in the 5K’s field of 17 teams, but did not score team points. Sophomore Evan Byrd finished in 67th place with a time of 22:28 on the day. Junior JaLynn Byrd came in 103rd at the 23:48 mark. Senior Casey Thompson followed up in 181st with a time of 26:38.

The Blazers are scheduled to run Saturday, Oct. 15, at the Cross County Conference Championships, at Covington.
