NEW PARIS — The National Trail Lady Blazers put up a fight, but lost to Bethel in four sets on their home court on Tuesday, Oct. 11. Bethel won the first two sets, 25-13, 25-13, but Trail battled back to win the third set 25-20.
Despite a spirited effort, the Blazers lost the fourth set, 25-19.
“We did not play well at all the first two sets, and so I tried a totally different lineup for set three and four,” said Trail coach Joy Yeazel.
“I was pleased with the way the girls responded,” Yeazel said. “Abby Sullivan really did a great job hitting tonight and senior Shania Jordan did a great job recognizing that she was having a good night and kept giving her the ball.”
Two senior players were honored during the evening.
“Tonight was senior night and we recognized two great seniors in Marissa Hawkins and Jordan. They will be missed on the volleyball court,” Yeazel said.
Offensively, Sullivan had seven kills, and Hawkins and Lexi Stiner each had six kills. Ariel Lee, Katie Deardorff and Stiner each had two aces. Defensively, Jordan led the team with 11 digs while Stiner had one solo block and one block assist.
The Lady Blazers are now 4-17 overall and 1-10 in the Cross County Conference. The Blazers were scheduled to travel to Ansonia on Thursday, Oct. 13, for their last regular season contest. The Blazers are scheduled to compete in the first round of the Division III sectional tournament against Milton-Union on Saturday, Oct. 15, at Brookville.
