WEST MILTON — Preble Shawnee’s boys soccer team completed the regular season with a 1-1 tie against Southwestern Buckeye League rival Milton-Union on Thursday, Oct. 13, on the road.

Milton-Union dominated shots in the first half, but only three were on goal and were saved by Shawnee goalkeeper Austin Fields. There were a lot of fouls on both sides — 23 total in game. With nine minutes left in the first half, Milton-Union fouled sophomore Cody Clevenger, who took the free kick from around the 43-yard line and scored for Shawnee putting the Arrows up 1-0 at half time.

The Bulldogs came out strong in the second half and put a goal in within the first two minutes, tying it up 1-1. Even though Milton-Union had five shots-on-goal to Shawnee’s three, neither team was able to score a winning goal.

The Arrows had six shots-on-goal from John Williams, Luke Feck, Clevenger, and Cameron Neal. Fields had eight saves.

“We tried a different line up tonight by placing Luke Feck back in defense most of the game. Luke is our leading scorer so we were unsure how it was going to play out. He was a powerhouse back there and saved several goals. Cody Clevenger scored our only goal from an amazing shot at about 50 yards out,” Shawnee coach Jeff Clevenger. ” I am really proud of the boys and the improvement they have made this season. They should be proud of having the best record for Shawnee since 2011, and we came so close to beating that.”

“We are losing seven seniors this year in Tyler Blankenship, Kage Worley, Trevor Dunn, Camron Neal, Dwight Wilt, Nick Schraub, and Logan Carter, so the boys taking their place next year will have a lot to live up to. I believe we achieved our goal of changing the culture in our boys’ soccer program and I can’t wait to see what they do next year.”

The Arrows are 6-8-2 overall and finished 4-5-1 in the SWBL. Preble Shawnee was scheduled to play Catholic Central on Monday, Oct. 17, in the Division III, Dayton 5 Sectional Tournament.
