TVS wins first round of sectionals

ARCANUM — In a hotly contested match, the No. 7 seed Twin Valley South Lady Panthers beat out the No. 10 seed Ansonia volleyball team and advanced in the Arcanum 1 Sectional Tournament on Monday, Oct. 17.

South won in four sets, 25-23, 24-26, 25-21, and 29-27.

Leading the way for the Panthers was Abby Beneke, with 13 service points, 20 digs and 20 kills. Madison Wright went 34- of -37 on serve receive, and charted 32 digs. Mylan Crews dished out 24 assists while having five kills. Delaney Adams notched 13 service points with 15 digs and two kills.

Emma Fergus turned a solid performance, keeping the ball in play on 33 of 36 attempts, with four kills. Sidney Mowell had two points and two digs. Audrey Chesney made two points, four digs and seven kills.

Abby Bingham contributed with three points, seven digs, three assists and one kill. Zoe Utsinger had two digs, a kill and three solo blocks. Samantha Janecek came up big to end the game with a kill.

With the victory, the Lady Panthers were scheduled to play on Wednesday, Oct. 19, against No. 10 seed Covington at Arcanum.
