EATON — An Eaton man was arrested last week, after a traffic stop led to him running and hiding in a dumpster.

At approximately 8:05 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, Eaton Police received a call regarding a suspicious vehicle on Lexington Avenue, according to reports.

A subsequent traffic stop led to Eric C. Lewis, 32, fleeing from officers on foot toward the area of Bruce and East Elementary Schools. Officers worked with Eaton Community Schools on lockdown protocols and searched the school buildings to ensure they were safe before students were taken to class, according to information released by the EPD.

This resulted in a minor delay to the start of the school day for students of approximately 5-10 minutes.

Officers eventually learned the suspect never attempted to enter the school buildings and he was later arrested hiding inside a dumpster, according to officials.

Lewis already had a warrant out for his arrest and was transported to the Preble County Jail on additional charges.

According to Eaton Municipal Court records, Lewis was charged with obstructing official business, and “loitering.”

At press time, Lewis was in custody at the Preble County Jail, for those charges and an adult probation violation. A court date has been set for March 14, at 10 a.m.
