MVCTC students attend National FFA Convention in Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS — The 90th National FFA Convention & Expo was held in Indianapolis, Indiana, Oct. 25-28.

As one of the largest providers of agriculture education in the state, MVCTC had over 250 FFA students attend the National Convention. MVCTC provides agriculture education to over 1,000 middle and high school students in the Miami Valley. This includes middle and high school programs at 12 satellite locations and high school junior and senior programs in six career areas on the main campus in Englewood.

“FFA members from all corners of the nation converging in one place to celebrate their accomplishments and find inspiration for their next. Motivational keynote speakers, energetic concerts, fulfilling workshops and a sweeping Expo floor bustling with agriculture education and industry opportunities,” FFA National Convention is explained as a “Life-Changing Experience” on their website, www.ffa.org.

Eaton High School had 11 students attend the National Convention & Expo.

• Parliamentary Procedure Team, Trent Broermann, Blake Whitesell, Daphne Durham, Andrew Brooks, Katelyn Niehaus and Cole Whitesell, received a Gold Rating and 5th in the Nation. The National FFA Parliamentary Procedure LDE tests students’ ability to effectively communicate ideas during a meeting. Components included a general knowledge exam of parliamentary law, a 10-minute demonstration of parliamentary procedure, oral questions, written minutes of the demonstration as well as a team problem solving activity. Each team competed on local and state levels to earn the privilege of representing their state at the National FFA Convention & Expo.

• Andrew Brooks, Katelyn Niehaus and Cole Whitesell became accredited Parliamentarians from the Society for Agricultural Education Parliamentarian

• Farm Business Management Team, Drew Kahle, Rebecca Wright, Kendale Hamilton, and Gabe Hoff, received a Silver Rating and 18th in the Nation.

• National FFA Proficiency Finalist — Aaron Hendrich — National Winner of the Agriculture Mechanics Repair & Maintenance Entrepreneurship.

• National FFA Proficiency Finalist — Katelyn Niehaus, Silver Award in Agricultural Education – Entrepreneurship/Placement

• The American FFA Degree is awarded to members who have demonstrated the highest level of commitment to FFA and made significant accomplishments in their supervised agricultural experiences (SAEs). American FFA Degree Recipients – Emily Beal, Daniel Everett, Stephanie Millhouse, Levi Reid, Hunter Sharp.

• National Agriscience Fair Participants – Kylie Blair and Jessica Gillum National Finalist

• National FFA Proficiency Finalists – Katie Bendickson, Top 4 finalist in the area of Agricultural Sales-Entrepreneurship

• National FFA Proficiency Finalists – Maci Krites, Top 4 finalist in the area of Agricultural Mechanical Design and Fabrication

• National FFA Proficiency Finalists – Alyssa Westgerdes, Top 4 finalist in the area of Specialty Crop Production

• Three Star Chapter Award – National FFA Star Chapter Awards – Chapters that receive a gold rating by their state FFA associations are eligible to compete for National FFA 3-star, 2-star or 1-star ratings. Each chapter that competes for these awards will receive a multi-year plaque and a spur designating their 3-star, 2-star or 1-star rating. They will receive additional spurs for each year they compete and receive a rating from the National FFA Organization. Chapters that receive a national 3-star chapter rating will be eligible to compete for the chapters that receive a national 3-star chapter rating will be eligible to compete for the National Premier Chapter Awards, Models of Excellence and Middle School Models of Excellence Awards.

National Trail High School had 16 students attend the National Convention & Expo

Tri-County North had 16 students attend the National Convention & Expo

• The American FFA Degree is awarded to members who have demonstrated the highest level of commitment to FFA and made significant accomplishments in their supervised agricultural experiences (SAEs). American FFA Degree Recipient – Riley Hollinger.

Twin Valley South – 13 students attended the National Convention & Expo.

The National FFA Organization provides leadership, personal growth and career success training through agricultural education to 653,359 student members who belong to one of 8,568 local FFA chapters throughout the U.S., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The organization is also supported by 344,239 alumni members in 2,051 alumni chapters throughout the U.S.

What started almost 50 years ago as the Montgomery County Joint Vocational School (JVS) has transformed into the Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC). While the name has changed, the mission remains the same. MVCTC is dedicated to providing training for in-demand jobs and college-readiness skills for high school and adult students across Darke, Miami, Montgomery, Preble, and Warren Counties.
