EATON — After 16 rounds, for the second year in a row, Emma Upham of Eaton Middle School was named the champion of the Preble County Spelling Bee on Thursday, Jan. 18.
Adayln Panighetti was named runner-up, also for the second year in a row.
Students participate in a spelling bee at the building level for grades 4-8 in order to qualify for the county bee. This year’s participants were: Macy Bailey (TVS), Jolene Bendel (PS), Belle Blevins (PS), Bonnie Blevins (PS), Maebrianna Brubaker (NT), Liam Conway (NT), June Cooke (TCN), Noah Eaton (TVS), Mercy Hypes (E), Carson Janney (E), Christopher Knapp (NT), Jenna McCoy (TVS), Adylan Panighetti (E), Addison Sparks (NT), Emma Upham (E), Lynnlee Voge (TVS), Autumn Williamson (PS), and Travis Williamson (TCN).
The spelling bee would not be possible without the hard work of the coordinators at the district levels: Kaitlin Lawson (E), Nick Flynn (E), Amy Skinner (NT), Mike Eyler (NT), Gina Back (PS), Jennifer Williams (PS), Lauren Kiwacka (TCN), Marissa Jackson (TVS), and Margaret Karauss (TVS).
The Preble County Spelling Bee is coordinated by the Preble County Educational Service Center. The ESC would like to thank this year’s judges Barbara Cox and Kathleen McCreary as well as the pronouncer Daryl Michael. Thank you also goes out to Eaton Community Schools for hosting the county bee in the Performing Arts Center.
