WEST ALEXANDRIA — After weeks of competition, the Preble County schools’ quiz teams have wrapped up their seasons.

Both junior high and high school quiz teams compete in matches in which they are asked questions in areas including: math, language arts, government, fine arts, geography, world history, U.S. history, and current events.

Participants in the junior high quiz team season included: Bethel, Dixie, Eaton, National Trail, Tri-County North, and Twin Valley South. All teams had a great season and wrapped up their competition on Oct. 31, with a pizza party and recognition of their efforts.

Participants in the high school quiz team season included: Dixie, Miami East, National Trail, Twin Valley South, Arcanum, Ansonia, Milton Union, Eaton, Tri-County North, Franklin Monroe, Valley View, and Bethel.

After four weeks of intense competition, the teams finished up their seasons Dec. 11.

At the high school level, scores are tracked and schools compete for standings.

Miami East finished the quiz season on top, with only one loss. Ansonia, Bethel, and Tri-County North tied for second place, just one win behind. There was a three way tie for third place among Franklin Monroe, Valley View, and Eaton.

Dec. 11 was also a special night, as it was National Trail’s coach Todd Alexander’s last year — he is retiring this year. Alexander has been coaching quiz team for 25 years.

The junior high and high school quiz team season is coordinated by Daryl Michael and Laura Cottingim of the Preble Educational Service Center. The Preble County ESC would like to thank all the students who participated in quiz team and all the parents who supported and encouraged their students throughout this educational experience. A special thank you also to all the coaches of the schools who organized the district teams and prepared them for this learning opportunity.
