EATON — The Brooke-Gould Memorial Foundation provided the Preble County Fairgrounds with a grant which brought a new flagpole to the grounds.
The pole was installed by Creative Banner Flags & Pole and measures 50 feet high. It holds an American flag which is 10-feet by 15-feet.
“This is just a continuation of what (Brooke and Gould) have done with their desires that the funds be left to improve the area,” said John DeVilbiss, president of the St. Clair Foundation.
James Mays, manager of the fairgrounds, said they are very appreciative of the donation.
“For us, it was applying for the grant through the senior fair board and getting with Mary Bullen to get it taken care of,” he said. “They so graciously awarded us a grant.”
The purpose of the foundation was to further improve the beautification of Eaton.
“It was very forward thinking of those two fine ladies to leave that money. It’s done many, many projects in the area,” said DeVilbiss. “It’s wonderful what they have done for the city. This wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them.”
The total cost of the pole was $11,830.
