‘Oinkers for Art’

EATON — Putting lipstick on a pig might not change it much, but a good design and a complete paint job might win a community group the Oinkers for Art competition.

The Preble County Art Association and the Preble County Pork Festival teamed up again this year to present Oinkers for Art, and selected teams met at the Eaton Earlybird Farmer’s Market to paint their concrete swine on Saturday, Aug. 27.

Selected teams this year included the Preble County Council on Aging, Essence of Wellness, Preble Trails, Preble County District Library, Summit Chiropractic, Blue Star Mothers of America, Greenbriar Senior Campus, Spicy Bois, and painter Hannah Wojcik.

Painted pigs will be displayed along the parade route — they were delivered to their locations on Sunday, Aug. 28. Later, they will be moved to the fairgrounds, in front of the Rotary Junction, where the competition will begin.

Voting for the winning pigs will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17.

According to organizers, the winning pig will earn its painters $100, with second place earning $75, and third earning $50. Winners will be determined by votes earned at the Pork Festival.

Each pig will have its own penny voting bin where voters can cast a few cents or a few bucks for their favorite pig. All pigs will be up for auction on Sept. 17, at Rotary Junction immediately following the announcement of awards at 5 p.m.
