MIAMISBURG — A pair of Preble County lady golfers earned trips to the state tournament next week thanks to their performances at the Southwest District Division II tournament, Wednesday, Oct. 5, at PipeStone Golf Course.

Eaton junior Sarah Willis will be making her second trip to state after claiming the individual title at the district by shooting a low round of 74. Willis shot a 4-over par 40 on the front nine then regrouped to fire a 2-under par 34 on the back nine to win the tournament by three strokes.

Willis, also a state qualifier as a freshman, will be joined at state by National Trail freshman Makenna Jones, who tied for second with a school record 77.

Jones began play on the back nine where she shot a 41. She calmed her nerves and shot a 36 on the front side to round out her day. Jones lost in a playoff to Lemon-Monroe senior Sammi Blackburn for the second spot.

Versailles claimed the team title, shooting a 366, and they, Carroll (373) and Chaminade Julianne (373) earned the three team spots.

The state tournament is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Oct. 14-15, at The Ohio State University Gray Course.
