The Women’s Club of Lakengren met for lunch and the ceremonial flower installation of officers at Galo’s Italian Grill on June 3. Twenty-seven members and friends enjoyed this auspicious celebration that is held annually to swear in the incoming executive board. Preceding the breaking of bread, Elsie Burkle read an inspirational poem entitled “My Hand in God’s.”

The business meeting preceded the installation, wherein some changes about their next meeting were discussed. A viewing of the movie “Calendar Girls” will take place at 1 p.m. at the Lodge on July 1, with photos of the members to take place on July 13. Pam of P.J. Fire Department Appreciates

Recently, Tyler Claybaker commented upon GTFD’s history to date. Gasper Township Fire Department has grown from a small barn which housed one piece of equipment to a specialized unit that now holds three fire apparatus. In their upcoming future, a new piece of equipment is planned with a 24/7 around-the-clock EMS service. Along with the continued support of the Lakengren community, plus Gasper and Dixon Townships, the never-ending spirit and camaraderie shapes and steers GTFD to new heights.

Claybaker reminds residents they are continually seeking young men and women ages 14 to 18 to join their Cadet Program. Applications may be filled out on the spot at the fire station located at 4195 Paint Creek Road in Gasper Township. They may call the fire station937-472-0100, not an emergency number or text or call Claybaker, Program Coordinator at 937-336-6758.

How do you describe the music played by Garcia & Scott? This well-known musical duo are the next performers during the A & E Summer Concert Series set for Thursday, June 18, at the Marina Shelter starting at 7 p.m.

Whether you call it Acoustic Folk or Indie (independent music) Americana, this pair hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, brings lots of smiles and toe tapping to the audience.

This is the second performance within the 2015 series of concerts brought to you by the Activities & Entertainment Committee of Lakengren, and if the big crowd returns on that evening, you may want to scope out your location early. The entertainers will be there every two weeks on Thursdays until Sept. 10. Watch the front gate marquee for performance announcement.

Independence Day Reminders

Andrew Gaydosh & Associates reminds the Lakengren community there is a waterside concert by Josh Garrett at 8 p.m. on the night of the fireworks on July 3. You can tune in for this live radio broadcast on 90.5 WETT FM.

Whether you enjoy the aerial display via boat or land, the LPOA Office reminds folks that both ends of Lakengren Drive over the dam will close at midafternoon. The pyrotechnic crew and safety inspectors will be setting up for the Independence Day display that begins at 10 p.m.

As a precaution, the main lake will become no wake speed at 7:30 p.m. The Lake Patrol boat will be enforcing this rule for everyone’s convenience and personal safety.
