Kids and families
Eaton Library winter story time
Registration began Dec. 1 for the winter sessions of story time at the Eaton Library. The six-week sessions are available for kids as young as six months and as old as 12 years. The winter story times run from Jan. 4 through Feb. 8 with sessions that meet on Wednesdays or Thursdays. Register early, as spots are limited. You can register in person at the library at 301 N. Stevens Puppets performs Aladdin
Do you think you know the story of Aladdin? Don’t be so sure! Stevens Puppets bring stories and tales to life with their stunning backdrops and incredible carved marionettes! Join us for Stevens Puppets captivating performance of Aladdin. Catch their performance at the Eaton Library on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 1 p.m.
Christmas in the Village Open House
Visit the West Alexandria Library during Christmas in the Village on Sunday, Dec. 4 from 4-7 p.m. The library will provide you with a punch card that lists all the open businesses, cookies and door prize drawings.
Pokèmon Crafternoon
Kids can make some incredible Pokèmon-themed crafts at the West Elkton Library on Monday, Dec. 5 at 4 p.m.
Egg-Bot ornaments
Kids and adults alike will enjoy designing custom holiday ornaments with the library’s Egg-Bot. The Egg-Bot takes computer designs and draws them onto round objects (like eggs or ornaments). You can design your own ornament on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. at the West Manchester Library or Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 3 p.m. at the Eldorado Library.
Holiday Open Houses
Some Preble County District Library branches are hosting open houses for the holidays. Come for refreshments and see what the library has to offer.
The Eaton Library’s open house is Thursday, Dec. 8 at 5 p.m. Members of the Richmond Community Orchestra will offer musical entertainment, and we’ll have ornament crafts and refreshments.
The West Manchester Library’s open house is Wednesday, Dec. 14 at 6 p.m., and the Eldorado Library’s open house is Thursday, Dec. 15 at 6 p.m. Both open houses will have cookies, treats, and goodie bags for kids 13 and under, as well as pictures with Santa Claus.
The New Paris Library’s open house will be Monday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m.
The Camden Library’s open house is Monday, Dec. 19 during open hours of 12-8 p.m.
Homeschool Hour: Clay
Learn some techniques of pottery-making at the December Homeschool Hour. Join us at the Eaton Library on Wednesday, Dec. 21 at 3 p.m. to learn about modeling and sculpture. Program is for homeschool students and educators, and each student will be making their very own project to take home!
Teens (grades 6-12)
Anime Club: Cherry Blossoms
Watch anime, try Japanese snacks, and make cherry blossom anime- and manga-inspired crafts at the Eaton Library on Tuesday, Dec. 6 at 3:30 p.m. Anime Club is for teens in grades 6-12. Registration is required. Sign up in person or call (937) 456-4331.
NES Classic Gaming
Play classic 8-bit Nintendo games on our Raspberry Pi computer. We’ll also design Super Mario levels on the Wii U with Super Mario Maker! We’ll have snacks, too! NES Classic Gaming is for teens in grades 6-12, and it will be at the following libraries:

Write On! Creative Writing Club
Complete creative writing prompts, talk about writing, and have some snacks at the Eaton Library’s teen (grades 6-12) writing club: Write On! The next meeting is Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 3:30 p.m. You can share your work aloud, but you don’t have to. Registration is required. Sign up at the library or call (937) 456-4331.
Super Smash Bros. Tournament
Compete in Super Smash Bros. on the Wii U at the Eaton Library on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 3:30 p.m. Every player gets a prized, but the top player will win a Kirby plush! Tournament is for teens in grades 6-12. Call (937) 456-4331 to register or register in person at the library.
Adults
Women in the Civil War
On Saturday, Dec. 3 at 1 p.m., the public is invited to a presentation of “Women in the Civil War” at the Preble County District Library Administration Building at 450 S. Barron St. in Eaton. The program is sponsored by the Preble County Genealogical Society in connection with its December meeting.
Our speaker will be Ms. Kathy Hayes of Dayton. She teaches Appalachian History through the Humanities Department at Sinclair Community College. She does presentations on Civil War History through Sinclair’s College for Lifelong Learning.
Coffee & Canvas
We’ll have some pre-holiday painting fun at the Eaton Library on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 4 p.m. The Preble County Visual Arts Center will set you up to create your own version of a painting. All supplies are provided, and coffee will be served. Registration is limited to 10 participants for this free program, so be sure to register soon at the Eaton Library or call (937) 456-4331.
