PREBLE COUNTY — Preble County football teams in the Western Ohio Athletic Conference went 3-1 on the week, which included a record setting night. With two weeks left in the regular season all four teams still have a shot at making the postseason.
Shawnee wins 6th straight
CAMDEN — Preble Shawnee was forced to play a Thursday (Oct. 5) night game due to a lack of officiating crews on Friday night. That didn’t stop the Shawnee offense though as they erupted for 41 points and held the Trojans to just a field goal in a dominating 41-3 win.
The Arrows had 295 yards of offense with Lane Lovely leading the way on the ground with 95 yards and 3 TDs. Brody Morton threw for 140 yards and a scoring strike caught by Isaac Blankenship, who also had a rushing TD as well.
Preble Shawnee improves to 6-2 overall and 5-1 in the conference a game back of 6-0 Ansonia, who the Arrows will host this Friday night in a game that will have implications on the WOAC championship.
Ruebush sets new career mark in National Trail win
NEW PARIS — Senior running back Chase Ruebush had a big night gaining 113 yards on 10 carries and 3 TDs to led National Trail to a 55-0 win over Mississinawa Valley on Friday, Oct. 6. Ruebush, on his first carry of the game, broke the school rushing record of 2,723 yards set in 1975 by Tim Holland.
The Blazers had three runners rush for over 100 yards, Jamison Watts had 106 and Jody Wintrow 104. Wintrow, and Zack Creager both had a rushing TD as well.
Joey Roberts had three receptions for 54 yards and 2 touchdowns, both passes came from Watts.
National Trail improves to 4-4 overall and 4-2 in the WOAC. They will play at Twin Valley South this week.
Mississinawa remains winless and will host Tri-County North.
North shut out by Ansonia
LEWISBURG — The Tigers continue to dominate opponents and held a good Tri-County North team to zero points and held the league’s leading rusher Colten Vanwinkle to just 67 yards rushing en route to a 34-0 win on Friday, Oct. 6.
Ansonia Keegen Weiss had 5 TDs on 189 yards on 21 attempts. Weiss has 24 rushing TD’s this year and vaulted back into No. 1 rushing spot in the league surpassing Vanwinkle. Weiss has 1388 yards and Vanwinkle 1243 in 2nd place.
The Tigers will improve to 8-0 overall and 6-0 in the conference and will travel to Preble Shawnee this Friday in a big WOAC showdown.
North will travel to Mississinawa Valley on Thursday, Oct. 12.
South spoils Bradford homecoming
BRADFORD — Twin Valley South moved to 4-4 overall and 4-3 in the WOAC with a 41-8 win at Bradford on Friday, Oct. 6.
Bradford kept the game within striking distance in the first quarter after Junior quarterback Owen Canan connected with senior Trey Schmelzer for a 40-yard TD but trailed 13-8 at the end of the period.
The Panthers offense was clicking, and the defense was good enough to keep Bradford out of the endzone the rest of the night.
Canan would throw 25 times with 13 completions for 154 yards. Hudson Hill had 8 receptions for 69 yards and Schmelzer 51 yards on two catches including the 40-yard TD grab.
Bradford falls to 2-6 on the year and will travel to Tri-Village this Friday.
South will host National Trail, also on Friday.
